Sylvanus Griswold Morley was born in Templeton, Mass. He attended Tufts University (A.B., 1898) and Harvard University (A.M., 1898 and Ph.D., 1902). He taught Spanish literature at the University of California, Berkeley from 1914 until 1948. He is particularly remembered for his work in the fields of balladry and drama, with a particular interest in the works of Lopr de Vega. Morley died in 1970.
